Seven Songs to Sing (12 Days of CNY)

Christopher was born with a severe heart defect. He had his first surgery in July of 2012, but after recovering and returning back to his orphanage, his health began to deteriorate. Christopher's oxygen saturation was getting low and he was experiencing retractions, a sign that he was in respiratory distress. Anxious to preserve the life of this precious child, Christopher's orphanage contacted us and asked if we could help. Initially we weren't sure if there was anything that could be done, but after consulting with some cardiologists in the US, we were hopeful that Christopher could have a chance at life.

Christopher arrived at New Day Foster Home in November and became the newest little one in our Critical Care Unit. Just a few days after Christopher arrived, we began seeing huge changes. His oxygen saturation was going up, and he was getting stronger with each and every smile and giggle that we shared with him.

In December Christopher got a nasty case of pneumonia and needed to be admitted into PICU for a few days. He recovered well, and somehow caused the head nurse in the hospital to fall head-over-heels in love with him. We almost had to beg the nurse to let him come home!

As soon as Christopher gains some more weight, he'll be ready for his second surgery. In the meantime, our goal is to stuff him full of good nutrition and pure joy. Despite being weak, Christopher is a little man with a strong personality and a musical mind. He can't sit up for too long without getting sweaty and fatigued, but he could listen to music all day.

Today we're celebrating Christopher, and the "seven songs to sing." While the video below may not feature all of the "seven songs to sing", it certainly gives a precious glimpse into the heart and soul of a little miracle.
