Let Them Be Little

Our children have gone through so much in their short lives, way more than any child should have to go through. They know the feeling of abandonment and have spent too many nights in hospitals.

Because of their past is it even more important to let them be little. To give them normal childhood experiences that are full of joy and exploration.

It is even more important to show them how loved they are and to teach them how to love.

Our kids have missed out on so much. So many first have come way too late and so many simple joys have been missed.

So, we take every opportunity to let them be kids. To let them experience the joys of childhood and to create memories that will bring smiles in the years to come.

Playing in the rain is one of the little things we like to do to let our kids be little!

Sweet 'Brothers'

Right now our CCU has all boys. Emmanuel is the oldest, so he has quickly learned the role of big brother.

Emmanuel often helps the nannies with little tasks they need to do. He will throw away trash, pick up toys, and do other simple tasks.

But Emmanuel's favorite thing to do is to hold the babies.

He is such a sweet 'brother' and will gently hold Paul and Joshua and will often smoother them in kisses!

Paul and Joshua are pretty lucky to have a brother like Emmanuel!

Gingerbread Houses

"Wait wait wait you can't eat that yet!" was the anthem of our gingerbread house making. Our kids created wonderful sticky houses together using all the icing that didn't make it to their mouths. We loved getting to share this Christmas tradition with the children and from the pictures, we think they enjoyed it as well. The houses did turn out quite nice and very delicious.

love makes a difference

A core value at New Day is the belief that love makes a difference. Day in and day out our nannies are pouring love into each child in their care. Their tender touches, giggle-inducing tickles, and gentle care allow the children to heal and grow.

When the children arrive in our care, they are in need not just of medical healing, but emotional restoration, as well. We are so grateful to our nannies whose selfless love bring a sparkle back in eyes that were once dim.

Gazing at the faces of our children (and our nannies), it is undeniable that love makes a difference.

International Women's Day

March 8th is a day set aside around the world to celebrate women. Here in China the day is celebrated by giving all women half a day off of work.

Malala Yousafzai said, "Do not wait for someone else to come and speak for you. It's you who can change the world"

Here at New Day we have a lot of women who are doing just that, changing the world. Many of them may think that is not that case, but all you have to do is look at how they lovingly care for the children and fulfill their jobs to know that each of them is making a huge difference!

Women like our nannies. These amazing ladies care for and love the children like they are their own. They are the ones that care for them while they are sick, stay with them at the hospital, and provide cuddles with they are needed. The nannies are the ones who celebrate each victory as they watch the children grow up before their eyes.

Women like our therapy and medical staff. They research the medical needs of our children and fight for them to get the very best care possible. They work with them each and every day stretching, talking, and building strength so they can reach each developmental milestone.

Women like our foster mamas. They welcome children into their homes and raise them as if they were their own. These are the mamas who tuck the children in bed each night and are there if they wake up in the middle of the night. They are the mamas who teach the children what it means to be loved and what it means to be part of a family.

Women like our teachers. These women show up each and every day ready to teach the children. They come up with creative ideas to help the children learn concepts and ensure that each and every class is full of both learning and fun.

Women like our volunteers and office staff. They daily pour themselves out to show the children just how loved that they are.

We are so thankful for each of these women, women who are truly changing the world
