I am Safe, I am Loved, I Can Do It!

New Day is committed to designing reasonable rehabilitation and learning plans for children with special needs, and counseling and training the nannies to implement and complete these plans.

Each of our nannies needs to become a qualified "special mother." There are classes they must complete to reach this level.

They start by taking care of the children personally: learning the pathology of children with cerebral palsy, understanding the needs of children, learning about nursing, rehabilitation and child development.

Our goal is to let children know: "I am safe, I am loved, I can do it!" This is what the nannies must work towards. Due to the complexity of cerebral palsy, the children's body, ability, cognition, expression etc. are different from child to child. Therefore, to study, understand children, and analyze their various needs is the entry point for their study. Their classes must be to tailor specifically for the children they are caring for.

For example, Frank is a child with cerebral palsy that has high muscle tone but normal mental development. He is able to learn and understand what is happening around him, but his body prevents him from standing or sitting by himself, expressing his needs with gestures or words. We need to give him appropriate feeding and nursing every day; do one-on-one physical therapy with him; design learning activities for him, and teach him to use auxiliary communication tools (AAC) to communicate with others, etc.

After we have completed the assessment and activity design, we train the nannies to implement these plans in the children’s daily lives.

To train them our work focuses on the following:

Caring

We care about the growth of children as well as the needs of the nannies. Providing good resources, programs and equipment, which can be directly used by the nannies to help them meet their children’s needs is very important; understanding their difficulties, communicating with them, and training them so they understand the goals of their children. If we want them to care for the children well we must first care for them so that they can work with peace of mind and have fun and joyful interactions with their children.

Guidance

We exchange ideas with the nannies every week on how to integrate rehabilitation and learning plans into the children's schedule. We look at which goals have been completed, and what difficulties were encountered. Together we come up with solutions for problems. We also choose different training methods according to the learning ability of each nanny. Some nannies will learn by reading, some need to practice, and some need to watch demonstrations and then imitate. So the coach needs to prepare in advance to ensure that every activity can be carried out smoothly.

Development

We need to constantly discover and solve problems. Based on good communication, providing guidance and help in posture sitting, feeding, language development, and behavior management. Repair and adjust children's chairs, standing frames and other rehabilitation equipment, and formulate/adjust schedules, etc. We are constantly learning-teaching-guiding-learning, this cycle continues daily helping everyone to make progress.
