A Miraculous Weekend

Friday night we got a call that there was a liver on its way to Beijing. Mark went into surgery at 7:45pm.

Miracle #1: He survived until surgery. Every couple of days for the last few weeks the doctors had been warning us that Mark had only a short time left. His liver was failing, he would be in a coma soon... he needed a liver asap or else he would not survive.

The surgery lasted 13.5 hours. It began Friday night and ended Saturday morning. We are so indebted to the incredible surgeons who worked through the late hours of the night and the wee hours of the morning. They are our hero's!

Miracle #2: Mark survived surgery. The doctors said that it was very high-risk. They said that his case was very serious. Mark was quite weak and the risks were great, but he made it through all 13.5 hours.

Only five hours after being transferred from the OR to ICU, Mark's sedation medications were weened and he was extubated.

Miracle #3: He woke up and was breathing on his own. So far, no rejection. And we think that we can already see a difference in his skin color after just five hours - amazing!

By Sunday afternoon Mark continued to remain stable and he seems to still be doing well. He's a bit fussy (you would be too if you hadn't eaten for two days) but alert and healing.

We will keep you updated.
