Children of Joy

Children with Down Syndrome usually lag behind their peers in physical, language, and cognitive development; they are more likely to suffer from heart disease, hearing, visual impairment, and endocrine problems.

In our in-orphanage projects, the nannies affectionately call them "Baby Tang.”

Taking care of children with Down syndrome needs professional knowledge and continuous follow-up.

Each child is different but overall their needs in care are mainly in three areas: medical treatment, feeding and physical therapy.

One of the main reasons for their development challenges is "low muscle tone.”

To put it simply, their bodies are always in a state of relaxation. Even if they want to complete a simple movement, it is like awakening their limbs from a deep sleep before they can start.

This state of low muscle tone will accompany them all their lives, which will affect the development of their skeletal and muscular system, their language development and swallowing function.

They need continuous medical and therapy assistance.

The good news is that the earlier these interventions begin, the greater the help for the child.

The first two years are the most important stage for their development, so it is necessary to provide physical and intellectual development support as early as possible.

Our interventions are usually:

Physical therapy- helps them develop muscle control and coordination.

Occupational therapy- improves feeding skills, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills.

Speech therapy- pronunciation training, sign language, and training in use of communication tools.

The nannies use different methods to help children develop athletic ability.

After years and years of continuous help and training, the two little guys made great progress!

Faced with many challenges, children with Down syndrome still enjoy life. They are full of pure joy, enjoying life without reservation. Their hearts seem to have a source of happiness, and it is easy to see. Joy often rushes out like a spring, and their innocent smiles infect everyone around them. This is the unique charm that God has given them.

Thanks to our nannies for their hard work ensuring that these children receive everything they need for a good start in life!
