He is five years old and joined our program because of brain, heart and lung issues. Initially he also had a gastric tube due to difficulty swallowing.
Since arriving he has grown into a friendly, optimistic little boy and long before he learned to speak, he would communicate with people with a gentle smile.
He is always willing to share and help take care of the other children around him.
Samuel is very inquisitive and is full of questions. He loves sitting in the arms of his nanny asking, "What is this? What is that?"
The end of November 2019 he under went surgery and from then on, he had no dietary restriction.
One day while playing with Samuel, the teacher gave him a ball to throw in the basketball hoop. In excitement he gave her a high-five when he made it. One time when he didn't make it, the teacher grabbed her head and said, "Oh! No!"
She didn't expect Samuel to stop throwing the ball, walk to her, reach out and touch her forehead, “Does it hurt?"
His concern was so apparent that we were all deeply touched.
How gentle, how special it was to see a five-year-old child know how to comfort an adult's pain.
Growing up under the tender care of his nannies, Samuel has learned to treat others with tenderness.
May we all learn to be gentle like Samuel.
