Cake Therapy

Oliver and Pearl just happened to be at the right place at the right time during therapy the other day. There was a birthday party happening next door with LOTS of cake, and so they managed to sneak a few pieces away and enjoy them during their 'therapy' sessions!

Don't worry, they didn't waste their therapy session by partying too hard- Zoey (PT) and Sharon (OT) both managed to make the eating into exercise, as both children had to feed themselves the cake using a spoon!

For Oliver, this meant he needed a bit of help to hold the spoon so it didn't get too messy, but he now manages to get the spoon into his mouth by himself.

Pearl is working on using her right hand which is quite weak, and so she also needed a bit of help to get the spoon into her mouth. This was probably Pearl's first taste of birthday cake and she seemed to like it, particularly the icing!

With the motivation of cake as the reward for the effort put in, both children made a really great effort at eating their cake! We don't eat cake every afternoon in therapy (honest!) but it does make a great treat for all the effort the kids put in.
