Therapy Notes

We are SO excited to announce Samuel's latest accomplishment...

Samuel Walking from Carrie McKean on Vimeo.

WALKING!  Using a small walker for balance, Samuel has reached a new level of independence.  We are so thrilled, as most of us didn't even know he had the potential to walk!  Can you believe this little guy?  Isn't he such an inspiration?!  We're also super-impressed by our therapy team who work with him every day and celebrates each milestone he reaches.

And in slightly less inspirational but downright funny news, we have another funny story about Joshua's therapy.  Remember reading about him claiming a heart condition to get out of therapy?  Well this week, he tried another angle.  Last week, a group of visitors from Beijing brought hamburgers from McDonald's and sandwiches from Subway for all the children to enjoy.

Evidently Joshua was a fan.

Because the other day in therapy, his therapist waited at the top of the stairs and said, "Come on up, Joshua!  I have some cookies for you when you get here!"

Without missing a beat, Joshua retorted: "Do you have McDonald's?"

This isn't related to therapy, but it's a funny McDonald's story.  Robert and Ethan particularly enjoyed their McDonald's lunch... so much so that upon finishing their hamburgers, they noticed a few leftovers still in the box.  They ran up to their nanny and asked her to put some in the refrigerator for the two of them to eat later!

  1. What?! His Mama just about fell off her chair! That is unbelievable news! Thank you Carrie! Do you happen to have a video? I could hug you, dear girl!

  2. Wow...and Samuel continues to stun the world with his mere presence in it. How on earth did we get so blessed?

Can't wait to see what He will do with this little one who has had such a great impact on many.

  3. Great job, Samuel! I miss you and your goofy grin! You have continually amazed everyone around you. You're a miracle, and I love you!

  4. Sorry everyone! I meant to include the video before I posted, but accidentally posted before the video finished uploading! The videos are there now. ENJOY!!

  7. ALL those boys are cracking me up with the McDonald's motivation!
Samuel's family is SO BLESSED! He is beyond adorable and his perseverance is AMAZING!
I know the video blessed their socks off!
    It did mine!

  8. All I can say is AWESOME!
He continues to amaze and inspire SO many! The look on his face is SO precious and did he say "Mama?!" I wasn't sure, but I think he did to say, "hey lookey here mom! Lookey what I'm doin'!"
He is such a determined little man. I am simply in awe of how he has touched so many with his spirit and go-to-it-tive-ness.
Nolan loves watching this video (he had me play it about 10 times in a row!) --yeah, he didn't really have to twist my arm too hard.) I think he's still hoping for a play date. HA!

What a blessing for Samuel, for his family ... for his future! YAY!

  9. GO Samuel! You are amazing. Cannot wait to see what life holds for you.

How funny are all those boys...and Ethan, so happy he has the family he does---they are too excited to get that gorgeous boy home!

  10. All i can say is God is so Good...what an inspiration for all.

  11. in joshua's video the loud voice in the background sounds like my little emma it? she sounds a bit bossy..sorry joshua ;) girls can be so sassy at times ;)
way to go joshua...what a strong little boy you are.

  12. @Andrea - I know that one of the voices (grown-up) is Amy, our foster home manager. She asks Joshua if he is tired, and he shakes his head no. I did hear another child's voice at one point, but honestly I'm not sure who it is! Sometimes with 50+ little ones coming in and out of the foster home, their shrieks sound similar. ;)
