More Families join NDFH

Looking at the continuous growth of the Eleos project for children in distress and the increasing number of children, our feelings are mixed. We are happy to see that more and more children in distress are being found, cared for, and helped, giving them a little more hope in their lives. What is worrying is that there are countless similar children still in unknown corners with no light in their lives. Our steps cannot stop because we have bigger dreams in our hearts.

At the beginning of June, our team in Hohhot visited 11 children in the Eleos project together with volunteers bringing the families materials and stipends. Among them, 7 new children who just joined the project. Let us introduce them to you.

Xiaonan

Born in 2018 · Father is physically disabled; and her mother is mentally disabled.

Xiao Nan is a lively and lovely girl with a sweet smile. Xiao Nan's mother is mentally handicapped, and can barely take care of herself, and communication is difficult. Her father was involved in a car accident when he was young, and his left leg was amputated. The local Disabled Persons' Federation helped him obtain a prosthetic leg, but it still prevents him from doing manual labor. The family lives on a monthly subsistence allowance of $270 per month, and her father will go out to collect garbage and sell it to make money to subsidize the family income.

Xiaonan's family rents a crude house and the living environment is relatively poor. Fortunately, the location is very close to the kindergarten, so it is very convenient for Xiaonan to go to school.

Shuyao

Born in 2012 with cerebral palsy Shuyao's mother left home five years ago, leaving Shuyao and her brother who is in junior high school. The father supports the family by driving a taxi, but affected by the epidemic, his father soon lost his job.

Later, when her father was working on a construction site, he suffered a head injury, and he can no longer work to support his family. The burden of the family's life falls on the grandparents. Her older brother is 20 years old and attends a junior college, where the tuition fee is relatively high.

Shuyao’s CP has prevented her ability to move, but she is very smart and optimistic, and can communicate with simple words.

Xiaoxin

Born in 2015 · His father passed away and his mother is mentally disabled.

Xiaoxin's father died of a sudden cerebral hemorrhage in 2020, and his mother is mentally disabled. Xiaoxin is a lively and cheerful child, expresses himself clearly, and will take the initiative to ask others for help.

Xiaoxin is in the second grade in a neighboring village. His mother picks him up and takes him to school every day. The mother and son depend on each other. The mother can barely cook for Xiaoxin and their living environment and sanitation are relatively poor.

The source of livelihood for the mother and son mainly depends on the subsidy of $260 given by the state for unsupported children.

Miaomiao

Born in 2015 Miaomiao's parents passed away due to illness in 2018 and 2019, and her grandfather also passed away in 2020. Only Miaomiao and grandma are left in the family.

Miaomiao is in the second grade of elementary school. She has a cheerful personality and good learning ability. Teachers and classmates like her very much, and she also likes to chat about school affairs.

Grandma takes a 3-hour bus ride to take Miaomiao to school every day. The public rental housing (provided by the government) they live in is far away from the school. Because of diabetes, grandma's eyes are getting blurred. She was unwilling to inject insulin, and reluctantly takes medicine to maintain it.

Grandma and Miaomiao’s source of income mainly relies on the government’s subsidy of $260 per month. Miaomiao eats lunch at school which costs $110 per month.

Xiaohe

Born in 2011 his parents are divorced, and his mother is mentally disabled

When Xiaohe was young, his parents divorced, and he lived with his mother. His mother suffers from a mental disability and has been on medication for many years and is unable to work due to this illness. Xiaohe doesn't like to talk, doesn't like to communicate with others, and is nervous in front of strangers.

His mother is the only family member in his life. The mother and son live on a monthly subsistence allowance of $120. The government provides them with low-rent housing, and their residence is relatively stable.

Xiaoqi

Born in 2016 · Parents are deaf-mute and disabled.

Xiaoqi's parents are both deaf and dumb. Xiaoqi's older sister, Xiaohui, is 14 years old and is in junior high school. The two sisters are healthy, smart, and cute. Xiaoqi's mother has poor eyesight and has been out of town at a hospital for care with her father for more than a month. Xiaoqi and her sister are taken care of by grandma.

The family rents a relative's house, which is opposite Xiaoqi's kindergarten. It is very convenient for Xiaoqi to go to school every day, and her grandmother also found a job in the kindergarten. Her older sister, Xiaohui, studies very hard. She has always been the top student in her class, and she spends a lot of time studying after returning home. Although growing up in a difficult environment, the two children are very motivated.

The main source of income for the family is a subsidy of $260 per month for unsupported children given by the state.

Aoying

Born in 2008 · Her father passed away and her mother is mentally disabled.

After Aoying's father passed away in 2018, her mother remarried and moved to another county.

Aoying's mother has an intellectual disability and can barely take care of herself, so she was unable to care for Aoying. Aoying's uncle and aunt are kind-hearted, and raise Aoying, becoming her legal guardians. Aoying loves them very much. The uncle guards the gate of a construction site, and basically cannot go home. The aunt takes care of Aoying's daily life and takes her to school.

We read so many stories of children in trouble, maybe we become numb, maybe we feel powerless. But don't forget the "starfish story.” They care about our little actions.

One time, a reader left a message saying: “Every time I see an article about a family in difficulty, I am afraid to click on it, because it is really sad, and I sincerely hope that every child’s family will get better and better.”

Yes, hoping that the lives of disadvantaged children will improve is exactly what we have in mind. Although we might be far away, we must face these children, read their stories, understand their real needs, and help them through the most difficult days in their lives.

It is precisely because of this dream that we can resolutely walk the path under our feet. Every step we take, we know that we are one step closer to the dream being fulfilled.

We invite all caring volunteers, individuals and friends- if you have a burden for these children, If you are willing to take a step with us, please contact us.
