Yī, èr, sān........

Learning to count - with your voice and on your hands - is a rite of passage for many preschoolers. The little ones at New Day are not different. Painted peg dolls provided Sophie, James and Eli a new activity for practicing their counting.

Counting with her voice was a little easier for Sophie than with her hands. Once she figured it out, she couldn't stop smiling.

We are grateful for nannies and preschool teachers that use creativity and new tools to keep learning fun for our preschoolers.

NDNorth: Children's Day pt 2

June 1, 2017, dawned clear and warm. The three small ones who live at New Day North Care Center are in for a treat—an outing to a local park to celebrate Children’s Day.
Ruth grins at Shua Li Rose as if to say, “Can you believe this???”

Ruth somehow knows she is in for a treat…she just doesn’t know how wonderful it will be.

She is beyond happy to be able to “get her feet wet” in the lake water.

Shua Li Rose is having a totally new experience…squishing her toes in the mud.

While a bit unsure, she is letting her feet sink down into the muddy soil.

And now she is investigating this strange substance that is covering her feet.

Frank is thoroughly enjoying his chance to splash in the fountain.

He enjoys this time to be out in the late spring sun and to be celebrated for being a child.

Ruth is thrilled to get her chance to dip her feet in the fountain.

No matter where she goes, Shua Li Rose always seems to make new friends.

As the outing draws to a close, Ruth and Frank are happy to rest on the laps of New Day North Staff members and savor this wonderful experience.

Musical Mornings

Thursday mornings the preschool class at NDFH Beijing enjoys a special time of music. Their giggles fill the room as they learn to keep rhythm and understand the beats of the music. Music plays an important role in the development of children. While the kids recognize the fun, they are also working on memory and motor skills. Interacting with music helps the brain and body make connections. However, to the preschoolers - they are just having fun with each other and their nannies!

Transformation Tuesday: Janessa

Janessa was born on November 25, 2014. She was abandoned three days later in the 'safe room' of the local orphanage and diagnosed with heart disease. She arrived at New Day Foster Home on July 16, 2015.

Upon her arrival at New Day, she was a quiet, sweet girl, who could play with her toes and suck her thumb. She spoke in baby language and was curious about things around her.

Though she grew bigger and stronger each day, she remained the sweet, quiet girl we met early on.

We are so happy for sweet Janessa and are excited for the joy ahead as she grows in her family.
