Our Amazing Walker

Micah is quiet, but his eyes sparkle with warmth. If he knows you, he will tilt his head and smile at you, or come over and shake your hand. With his charming expressions, there is no one who is not moved by him. "

Micah is 10 years old this month, and it has been almost 3 years since he joined the Little Deer project.

Due to physical and developmental issues, Micah is small and faces many difficulties with physical activity and learning. But watching Micah grow up in front of our eyes, we are amazed with the potential he has. As you get to know him better, you'll love his sweet smile and his upbeat personality.

When we started taking care of him, we helped him practice his standing first, in preparation for his walker practice later. Micah envies other friends who can walk and hopes that he will be walk everywhere like them. So, with the encouragement of his nanny, he insists on completing the task of standing on the stander every day. After a few weeks, he was able to stand for almost half an hour at a time, which is awesome!

When practicing walking in the bedroom, he would hold on to the bed and walk from one bed to the next. When exercising outside, Micah always holds the walker firmly with his hands and carefully takes every step.

Later, Micah got a yellow walker made specifically for him! Practicing walking with a walker every day is the happiest time for Micah. He is either chasing a ball, or chasing a friend, laughing while walking, and his laughter is often heard in the corridors.

When he meets someone he knows, and they say, "Micah, you're walking really well!" his steps become even more vigorous. Micah especially likes to walk with the walker or take his nanny's hand to the therapy room, outdoors and other places. He likes to walk fast and thinks that soon he will be able to walk without the walker. Then he will be able to go many places.

Outdoor activities are what Micah looks forward to the most.

When it is time to go out for a walk, he is always the first to go to the door, waiting impatiently to put on his coat and shoes. Outdoor he enjoys sitting on the slide. With crinkled eyes his little face is filled with a happy smile.

When playing on the swing, he will swing with all his might and is fascinated with how high he can swing. Seeing this, others are moved by his pure happiness!

What about snacks? Of course, I like them!

Once, when the nannies gave the children some rice cakes to eat, and put a few pieces in the bowl for Micah, he grabbed a handful for himself. He would eat it piece by piece, and if he dropped it on his leg, he would pick it up immediately. When Micah first joined us, he was a very picky eater. His nanny would encourage him to try different food. There has been a lot of change recently, and the food he accepts is more and more diverse, and his nanny is happy with the progress he has made.

Guess what Micah's favorite is?

Micah has a bit of hearing loss, but this doesn’t stop him from being interested in music.

When music plays, he tilts his head as if listening. He will put building blocks into a bottle, then shake the bottle and put the bottle to his ear to listen to the sound it makes.

He also likes to play a small guitar strumming gently to make a sound.

His favorite is playing drums.

He would tap the drum face to make a sound, and then he would tap the edge of the drum with his fingers to make a different sound. Micah listened carefully, pondering the difference in sound, laughing because he was amazed with the beautiful rhythm he created. We were surprised to see him hitting the drums with different fingerings without a teacher. This is really a very suitable instrument for Micah!

When not playing instruments, Micah's favorite game is acting out Row, Row, Row Your Boat. Every time you call him, "Micah, come and row the boat!" he will happily cooperate with you. Occasionally he will sing it with you. This is our happy Micah.

The orphanage is Micah’s home, and the Little Deer project is his paradise. Our hope is that Micah will grow up happily here; we also hope that one day, Micah will have his own adoptive family to take him home!

We desire for Micah to be happy and improve daily!
