OUR LITTLE STAR

Abner has been part of the New Day family for quite a while. He is smart and cute, he is just like his Chinese name, a little star.

From a baby waiting to be fed to the big boy he is now; Abner's nannies have been a huge part of his life.

His nannies’ thought Abner was a chubby, cute little boy. He was obedient and well-behaved. Before he could walk, he was always observing everything around him with his big, cute eyes.

Early on Abner had heart surgery but recovered well after the operation.

When he was small, he would lay in a baby chair, turning his head to follow his nanny at work. When his nanny had a little free time, he would "babble and babble" until she would pick him up. Then he would grin and grin.

After he healed well from his surgery, we found a caring foster family for him. Under the care of his foster mother, he learned to stand up, sit, climb, walk, jump...every milestone his foster mother happily celebrated with him.

Abner has grown into a gentle and pleasant little boy. He has learned to share things and help his nanny with work.

He calls all the dolls his sister, and he will patiently coax them to sleep and give them a bottle just as gentle and patient as his nanny is to him.

When the project in Beijing closed Abner joined our Little Deer project. The new nanny patiently helped him to gradually become familiar with the new environment. Initially he would sometimes get emotional, and his nanny would distract him with toys.

He doesn’t like going to bed. So, his nanny would hold him until he fell asleep. He would put his arm around her neck and put his legs around her waist until he fell sleep. It's very sweet.

Seeing Abner like this his nanny knew he needed extra love till he adjusted.  With this extra attention Abner gradually became more and more independent.

He always asked his nanny to accompany him to the bathroom. When she helped him take off his trousers, he would shout, "I, myself." Slowly he learned to go to the bathroom and flush the toilet by himself.

Yes, learning the life skill of “going to the toilet” by yourself is a “big event” worthy of praise. Both the nannies and children are very happy when this is accomplished.

Abner loves to say: "Mom, I want to help you with work." Not only can he dress and put on shoes, but sometimes he also helps put on the shoes of the other children.

Abner goes to school.

When I knew that I was going to school, I was very happy. I happily took my nanny's hand to go to school. After school, I shared with her about the kindergarten classmates, teachers, and many fun things. I actively cooperated every day. After school my nanny picks me up.

But after three days, when the newness passed, he stopped cooperating when it was time to go to school. He ran away and shouted, "I'm not going to school, I'm not going to school."

Seeing tears on his face, his nanny was also sad. But knew this was a process that he needed to go through.

Fortunately, Abner is an optimist. After a week or so, he also knew that this was what he had to do, and he slowly adapted to the school life.

Later, his nanny gave him a small school bag. He liked it very much. He put on his small backpack every morning, ready to go to school.

Seeing his adaptability, his nanny was very pleased. She believes that in the future, he will be able to overcome all the problems he encounters.

Although still a three-year-old child, Abner is very sensible and gentle.

One holiday, the children got a lot of delicious fruit snacks. Abner took a piece of fruit and handed it to his nanny for her to eat. She said to the person next to him, "Abner is a sweet little boy.”

Maybe in the eyes of others, being a nanny is just a job, but the children call you mother, and to the children you are everything.

Once his nanny accidentally hurt her arm. Abner asked her, "Does it hurt? Mom, let me blow it for you, it won’t hurt." The next day, he asked her, "Mom, does your arm feel any better, is it still painful?" His nanny had forgotten it herself; she didn't expect him to remember it, and she was very moved.

Sometimes when having fun with his nanny, he would express his love for her in words. He would say, "Mom, I love you!" sometimes repeating the sentence several times.

There is a strong affection between Abner and his nanny. She is looking forward to watching him grow up.

We also wish our little warmhearted boy will always be happy!
